Bartitsu Oxfordshire

23rd January 2022

Name: Bartitsu & WW2 Self Defence

Type: Bartitsu & Combatives event

Hosted by: Bartitsu Lab, Athena School of Karate

Description

Three opportunities to learn from the uniquely brilliant and entertaining Tommy Joe Moore.

11.30am Bartitsu (PG rated) An insight into theVictorian martial art which was famously the fighting style of Sherlock Holmes. Attendees are welcome to dress in period costume for the full experience (not compulsory) Tickets £10

2pm Defendu/Close Quarters Combat System – the hand-to-hand combat system based on practical experience mixed with Jujutsu and boxing that was developed to train the Shanghai Municipal Police, and was later taught in expanded form to SOE members during World War II. Tommy’s enthusiasm and expertise will blow you away, and you’ll learn lots of historic but pragmatic and enduringly relevant techniques.

4pm Bareknuckle Boxing. We will finish the day with whatever Tommy wants to teach you about boxing: ancient and modern. If you know Tommy, then you probably don’t need to know more than that – we’re planning to tell people to put their gloves on and have fun with it! Effectively: Tommy Unplugged. Buckle up!

The afternoon sessions are over 16s only as both the language and the content will be … graphic – reflecting the gutter origins of some of the material. Price for the afternoon tickets is £25 for both sessions. All profits from the event will go to fairfight.nl – empowering vulnerable young women in India and Africa through martial arts training and education support.
